Why is Reading so Important?
Studies show that reading daily can improve learning in every subject. Reading improves focus, memory, communication, empathy and critical thinking. Reading helps you gain new knowledge and increases your brainpower. To build a love for reading you have to find books that kids enjoy and want to read. Encourage children to read for 15 minutes and help them build up their stamina by increasing the time by 2 minutes every week. Make it a contest and invite the whole family to read together.
To encourage children to read you must find books they really enjoy. Books that capture their attention and spark a genuine interest. Read to/with your child. Even kids as old as 11 and 12 love to have someone read to them, especially children who struggle to read. A great idea is to read a page then have your child read a page. Discuss what you have read and talk about interesting words in the book.
